Evaluation

One traffic light east of I-75 on Fruitville Rd. in Sarasota, Fl. This four torch resort is convenient to all and accessible to the largest of rigs. From the time you are greeted at the welcome center until you pull out of the gate at the end of your stay; you will be treated to the warm and friendly customer service of the entire staff.

This very large, progressive resort has an ample supply of sites whether you are looking to buy or rent a park model or for a site to park your coach or trailer. Tenting is not permitted, except from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Check in at this resort could not be any easier; we didn’t even have to get out of the truck. We just pulled up to the Welcome Center/Gate, which is staffed 24/7, and checked in. By the time we were done a staff member was waiting in a golf cart to escort us to our site. Being a newcomer to this enormous property the escort service proved to be helpful. The roads are rather narrow and some wind around in a peculiar way. We got settled in to our site without any difficulties. Our site was a deluxe with crushed shell driveway and a concrete patio. All of the sites are of similar dimensions the difference between them is that standard sites are all grass, premium is grass with a patio, and both of these are in very sunny locations while deluxe sites are shadier. Pull through sites are also available on sunny sites with an understandably longer dimension than the others. All of the sites have 30/50 amp electric, water, sewer, cable TV and a picnic table. Campfires are prohibited by local ordinance. Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort, but we found the connection to be slow (probably overburdened), and the signal fluctuated a lot. This system, as many others, is most likely fine for checking e-mail and doing light surfing, but for doing things like paying bills online and maintaining a website, as we do, you will want an alternative connection. The resort does have a computer room where you can use an Ethernet connection if you can be productive in a workstation environment.

The pet exercise area was located close to our site and had two separate runs for the dogs to do their thing off leash. Campers participate in plastic grocery bag recycling so that pet owners have bags to clean up after their pet. Restrooms were a short walk from our site and included a nice pet bathing area outside. The facilities are modern, large, and spacious. I became rather disgruntled on Saturday morning after we had packed up the rig to go home and the bath house had paper strewn on the floor and none on the roll. A gross oversight for such a large well staffed resort.

This resort has amenities galore; unless you are into some sort of way off beat type of recreation or craft you will find something of interest to pass your time. Most of the activities such as; miniature golf, shuffle board, bocce ball, and the gorgeous swimming pool with in ground hot tub and whirlpool are located towards the front of the property. Spread through the park you will find; a lapidary, wood working shop, card room, church, computer room, tennis courts, putting greens, a place to wash your rig, and a nice pond for fishing. If you are anything like me you will be exhausted after a day full of all these activities. So, don’t worry about dinner, just head to the restaurant by the pool for the daily special or dish of your choice.

We found this resort to be well managed and maintained. We felt very welcome and comfortable during our stay. The campers that we met were friendly. We understand that the resort hosts an annual gay camping club’s rally, and that all parties involved in the organization are very happy with the venue.

The things that fell below our expectations were; the dirty bathroom without toilet paper, the lack of an onsite store of any kind, and that tenting is prohibited during the peak season. These in my book are not deal breakers and I would recommend this resort to anyone interested in this type of facility.

Evaluation

*This campground is located to the south west of Miami in a rural area that is mostly home to citrus groves and tropical plant retailers and wholesalers. We had no problem getting to our destination and easily navigated the spacious paved entry. The office looked to be made of an older KOA-frame construction but the inside was neat and clean and housed a nicely stocked convenience store. We were greeted by very cheerful employees and assisted by a workcamper that, wouldn’t you know, is from our home area. Once we were registered, a man in a golf cart led the way to our site and waited while we got parked.

The road inside the campground is gravel and the site was a grassy pull-through with a concrete patio and a line of trees on one street side. The utilities were conveniently located with the exception of not being able to reach the sewer connection. I think if I had said something to the office they would have let me move, but since we were only there for two nights and we were already leveled, I did not bother. We just backed up a few feet before we pulled out and dumped. The sites were situated in a mowed grass field with scattered trees and a paved walking, biking path all the way around. The setting provided a park like feel; which I thought particularly nice since we were so close to a large metropolitan area. The bathhouse was conveniently located, clean and modern. Inside was done almost completely in twelve inch natural tile, the fixtures were in good shape, the water was hot, and the water pressure was good.

We did not have an opportunity to use the following amenities, however everything looked very nice. Through a separate entrance at the back of the office building was the entrance to a large, well equipped, bright and clean laundry facility. The swimming pool and hot tub area was large and contained a lot of deck chairs and lounges all organized around the perimeter. A new white vinyl fence was being built to replace the existing chain link. Around the pool area were; a club house with a deck furnished with tables, chairs, and umbrellas, shuffleboard, horseshoes, basketball, and volleyball. Across from the office is Gators Grove Side Grill, serving pizza and a variety of snacks. Across a large sports field from the back of the pool area sits a huge Tiki hut pavilion and an auxiliary bathhouse. This looked like an ideal spot for any type of group gathering.

We were very impressed by all aspects of this campground, and look forward to going to other Legacy RV Resorts. The staff and campers were friendly, the facilities were great and with all the grassy, sites it had an earthier feel than other properties of this proportion.

* Due to scheduled activities, the amount of time we spent at the property and our experiences of it were limited.

Evaluation

We arrived at this resort after hours to be greeted by an entry gate that looks like most Florida residential gated communities. In the mail box was an envelope that contained a welcome packet; including everything we needed, with the exception of a receipt for our stay, which we got the next day.

The Palm tree lined paved road was beautiful. However, the trees required us to do a little extra juggling to get backed in to the site. The level crushed shell driveway made up for the extra time backing in and we were set up in usual time. Our site, like the others, was palm lined which provided almost complete privacy. Each site is individually owned providing a large degree of variation as to how they are equipped. Ours had two Tiki huts with lit ceiling fans, a TV, counter top with sink, upholstered sofa and chairs with coffee and side tables, a bar table and dinner table and chairs. We were in one of the eighteen canal sites which include boat docks. There are also twenty one off water sites, that have access to the 100’ pier, and forty two waterfront sites each with their own floating dock.

This compact yet luxurious property has a generous central park area that is nicely manicured and divided into a people park and pet park. Every time I walked our dogs, I became engaged in conversations of all sorts with other folks that were walking their dogs or just out and about. The pool and bathhouse were located at the club house and office building. All of these features were modern, in good repair and spotless. The clubhouse appeared sparse leading me to wonder if it gets any use outside of watching sports on the large flat screen TV.

The staff was very professional, polite, accommodating, and friendly. We experienced everything that we have learned to be “customer service”, including an in depth description of Key West and biscuits for the dogs. The property was luxurious, modern, and well maintained. The atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. The price was rather hefty compared to most, but if you have an appreciation for the luxuries offered or just like to spoil yourself occasionally, the value for the dollar is very good.
