  • Are You “Gay Friendly”

How ambiguous the phrase “gay friendly” is was shockingly brought to my attention by the following situation. The surrounding gay community boycotted a gay acquaintances hospitality business and mine. His business is welcoming to all but cater primarily to a mainstream clientele. A group of gay visitors felt they were being discriminated against because the owners…

  • Should you worry about driving up the mountain to Roseland?

in Moundsville we start heading up the mountain. In some places the road is indeed very narrow, with multiple switchback turns and the rig is working very hard to tow the 22k pounds up the mountain. If you know your rig, use common sense and know how to handle those mountain roads, you will not have too much difficulty getting to Roseland—otherwise…

  • What does it take to get small towns to accept gay men?

It seems there is a gentlemen’s club on the west end of the small town that recently opened and now there is a “gay male campground” on the east end. So, the holy rollers believe the town is going to hell! However, now that they have been operating since mid-April, the locals realize the boom “gay dollars” are to their business, much more than they ever realized from the straight cg…

  • Camp Timberlake: It’s a nice campground, but you may not want to camp here!

Monday we pack up and stop in the office to find Olivia, the owner’s wife. He is at a meeting in Fort Wayne, she tells us. We tell her who we are and she says, “this is an extremely religious area and you are welcome here anytime, but we would rather not be included in your website. I will tell my husband about who and what you do and let him make a final decision.” We’ve never heard from them again…

  • Of all places to take a beating…..

Off the interstate and on the back roads we discover on many of these narrow roads the trees have not been trimmed to accommodate the height of the rig. At 50 MPH we notice the sound of slapping branches hitting the top of the rig. Just in the middle of a wide right turn a car is heading straight for me and I swerve right and realize, I’ve made a mistake the wheels of the rig are…

  • How do you end up with a campground named Campit?

The drive to Campit was uneventful, although we have learned that any trip in the rig with the dogs takes much longer than we plan. Campit is one of the older gay campgrounds in the country. I have been to Saugatuck/Douglas Dunes many years ago and am well aware of its reputation as the premier gay resort in the Midwest…
